Paint fumes!

I'm so ready to be finished painting!  I didn't get a lot done today, other than two coats of primer and one coat of paint on my tall dresser.  THEN I decided I don't even want that dresser in my room anymore.  Oh well, it will go in the spare room for now.  My room is so ready to be put back together.

I've been in touch with Prestin's mom a little bit.  I don't know what the future holds for us but maybe we can slowly repair things.  I know it will never be the same as it was for 28 years, but I'll always love her and I think she knows that.  28 year long friendships can't just end because of a major disagreement, can they?  Time will tell.

My son joined a gym because he really wants to get buff like his friends.  Saturday he had a session with a personal trainer who worked him out so hard he literally passed out in the middle of his workout, and has had a migraine ever since.  He tried to go just to do cardio today but only made it a few minutes before his pain made him stop.  Hopefully it will stop soon because he has no health insurance.  He does have a tendency to get migraines so I'm not TOO worried.  Yet.

Cancer kids

I went to Children's Hospital to visit Prestin today.  You can't imagine how incredibly sad it is to walk through the hallways of a children's cancer ward.  Absolutely heart breaking.  I was shocked at how much weight he's lost:  30 pounds.  He's 14 years old.  He didn't have 30 pounds to lose.  His leg from below the knee up to about half way up his femur is so swollen.  Poor kids got a port in the side of his body, with so many tubes hooked up to him.  He's been there for several days and has only eaten one corn dog.  He was such a trooper though.  I don't know what else to say about it.  Sad, sad, sad.  My heart breaks for this kid and his family.

Breakfast Bar

Today I bought most of the supplies to make my breakfast bar.  I got it up, but didn't quite finish it.  I need cement and grout for the tile and trim.  Once it's done I think it will look fantastic.

I got another coat of paint on my dresser and night stand.  Once I get the dressers finished, I can take my bed apart so I can paint it.  My house looks like a tornado went through it with all the projects I'm doing at once.  You'd think I'd start one and finish it before moving onto the next, instead of starting them all at the same time!

Lazy pajama day

I never even got out of my pajamas today!  A couple things have kept me down today.  I'm "loading" which is something you have to do the first two days of the Hcg diet, which means you have to eat and eat and eat until you're full, and stay that way all day.  I'm so used to eating healthy that I am literally sick to my stomach.  Plus, I've been continuing on my painting project in my bedroom so I can at least get the stuff off my bed so I can sleep in it tonight.  Last night I attempted to sleep in my recliner but one of my cats had other ideas for me.  Climbed on me all night long, not wanting me to sleep at all.  And he got his way.  Tomorrow I'm hoping to get further on my bedroom project, and maybe even finish it in a day or two.

One thing I really need to fit in tomorrow is to go visit Prestin in the hospital.  I sure wish I could talk Kameron into going with me.  He's taking it pretty hard and just can't bring himself to go.  Or call.  He thinks it's just too hard.  We do love that kid.

Almost done with the bench and Prestin update

Prestin is in the hospital for a week or so starting chemo and having a bunch more tests.  So far they know there are 11 nodules in his lungs from the sarcoma.  He starts chemo tomorrow.  We'll go visit him sometime in the next day or two.

Now, the bench.  I didn't follow the instructions which were to cover it, THEN add the legs.  I didn't have the "stuff" to cover it so added the legs because I was in a hurry to make it a bench.  Well, because of that the corners look pretty bad where I attached the cover around the legs.  Live and learn.  Also, I could not for the life of me find foam, so ended up getting a $1 sleeping bag and some batting which I cut to make the cushion.  It's okay but would be better with foam.  The legs aren't painted yet because I haven't decided if I want to paint them white, which would look beautiful with the fabric, or dark brown which would go with the rest of my livingroom furntiture.  I also can't decided where I want to put the bench, in front of the couch like a coffee table, or under the half wall where the cats would use it.
Here is the tutorial I found on Pinterest.

White on white on white

One of my favorite things on Pinterest is white bedrooms.  You know the ones.  The ones where everything in there is white.  There maybe some accent color but the walls are white, the bedding's white, the furniture's white.  It looks so clean and fresh and pretty.  I've had this heavy dark wood furniture for the past several years and decided today is the day I'm going to start the transformation.  Boy oh boy I didn't realize what a HUGE undertaking this is.  It got a couple pieces primed but am calling quits for not, until I plan better, have more drops cloths, and maybe move some pieces out of the room so I have room to move around.  Right now?  It's a MESS.  I hope I don't regret this.

Death and a bench

A friend/co-worker passed away this morning.  I knew it was coming and wondered how hard it would be.  Knowing he's not around anymore is heart breaking.  He has been fighting leukemia the past couple years and it finally got the best of him.  Greg, you will be missed horribly and it was a privilege knowing you the past 25 years.

One thing I've known about me for most of my life is that when I get depressed, I spend money.  Doesn't matter that I don't have the money to spend, but I find a way.  I ran across a Pinterest easy DIY bench, so rushed right out to buy the materials.  John, "the man" at Home Depot, was so helpful, and I will be back to have him cut the wood for my next project as well.

Here is the tutorial I found on Pinterest.  She made a beautiful bench.  I was only able to get part of my things today because there is no fabric store anywhere close by, so I will make the "bones" of it today and finish it soon.  You'll be the first to see the pics when it's done.

I completely and absolutely overdid it yesterday, and today is the first day of my sobriety.  Hopefully a year from now I'll be celebrating one year.  Announcing it makes me accountable I feel.  Even though no one reads my "blog", I still feel that putting it out there makes a difference.  So my Facebook status reads, "I am announcing that today is the first day of my sobriety."  From the comments I think most people thought I was kidding, but from the "likes" I know most people are supportive and for that I am greatful.

My dad called last night to say that Nana (mom's mom) wasn't doing well, is on oxygen and an i.v.  Poor thing is just so old and run down.  She slept pretty much the whole time I was there, and I'm sure she didn't know who I was.  My mom is doing much better since her knee replacement surgery.  She had such a bad reaction to post surgery aspirin that she was in bed for over a month, sick.  It just ate up her stomach.  Then I came home a spray painted my $1 Goodwill lamp, but don't have a shade for it yet so not posting a pic yet.  Also I noticed my little egg carton herb starters are popping up.  If they keep growing I'll transfer them into a bigger container.  I'd really love to get some basil and rosemary and cilantro.  Pretty much spent the rest of the day playing on the computer, Pinterest, in particular, and catching up on TV shows.  Tomorrow is a nice day planned with friends.

And one more refashion

I bought this beautiful LLBean sweater for $1 at Goodwill yesterday.  It was a size XL, was long and huge.  I also bought the jeans (size 3 thank you very much) but they were flaired.  I refashioned the sweater by taking in the sleeves and sides, and shortening it.  I took the legs in of the jeans and turned them into skinny jeans.  I'm pretty happy with the outcome of both!

White sun top and old skirt into dress refashion

I've really been interested is this refashioning clothes thing.  I had this old tank that had a big ugle yellow stain between the bust and bottom.  I tried everything to get it out but it just wouldn't budge.  Plus, I had a couple skirt that were too big so either had to gake them in or donate them.  I decided to cut the bottom (the stained part) off and attack it to the skirt and turn it into a sun dress.  Way too easy to even bother with a turorial, but I'm very happy with how it turned out.  Since I live in Arizona, sun dresses get a ton of wear around here.  Let me know what you think!

Robot coaster

I have a very dear friend who collects, of all things, robots. I had an idea for a craft, to make a set of robot coasters. I know she will be absolutely thrilled.

Supplies needed:

4 4"x4" tiles
Whatever you're using as a design for the coaster
Spray adhesive
Spray clear coat
Something for the bottom side so they don't scratch the table surface

Apply your decoration (in my case pictures of robots) to the tiles with the spray adhesive and let dry.
Apply several coats of clear spray such as verathane.
Then apply the backing.

I cannot wait to see her reaction when she gets these in the mail.

Payday is my favorite day of the month

Today was payday so I made my monthly run to Costco for the necesseties, but made a few side stops.  Dollar Tree, K Mart, Joann Fabrics, and Home Depot.  I found some free pallets on Craigs list last night so needed to get a sander to make a couple things.  I want to use some to make a daybed in my spare room and I want to make a coffee table.  I also bought some Zinsser Primer because I want to change my dark brown wook furniture to white.  And I want to paint the walls white.  I really love the white on white look with accessories to add color.  I also bought a few supplies to make a large batch of homemade laundry detergent.  It was a good day until I came home and poured boiling soup on my hand which is now blistered.  Oh well.  Talk soon.

My 3 Favorite Kitchen Gadgets

My first favorite is my bullet blender. I use it every day to make little strawberry smoothies. I just throw in about ten frozen strawberries, a packet of stevia, water, and sometimes some plain greek yogurt and sometimes not. Instant smoothie in ten seconds. My next favorite is my crock pot. I use a couple times a week. I throw in several frozen chicken breats and a can or so of diced tomatoes and spices, and in 6-8 hours I have enough chicken to last about four days. Then my last one is one I just got in the mail today and it’s called an Xpress, Redi, Set, Go. It’s a little plug in gadget that looks simliar to a George Foreman Grill but isn’t. I just cooked my frozen salmon patty in it in about 8 minutes, probably could have taken it out in about six. So, there you go!

Cancer really does suck

Well, not only is my very good friend suffering from a very ugly malignant brain tumor, which she had removed a month ago but is very, very sick, a very good friend of ours, a 14 year old boy was just diagnosed with bone cancer in his leg.  His mother and I were best friends for 28 years but had a falling out nine months ago so am not in touch with the family.  The boy texted my son this morning and told him.  I texted him to remind him that we love him and care about him and to please keep us updated.  I'm really have a tough time with this and don't have anything brilliant to say today.  Hopefully I'll feel better tomorrow.  We love you P.

My new hobby

Because I've lost weight and trying to find clothes that fit, I happened across something on Pinterest called "refashioning" or "restructuring" clothes, and I was immediately drawn to it.  Today I got a wild hair and decided to try to make a top out of a pillowcase.  All I did was cut holes for the neckline and sleeves and finished the edges and round off the corners for the shoulders.  Oh yeah, I cut the neckline down a little bit to look a little like a boat neck.  I know it's a little dorky but I think it's kind of cute.  I  will probably never really wear it anywhere, but for my first try I think I did okay.

A word about my weightloss

Have you ever heard of Omnitrition?  Apparently they've been around for many years in the business of making/selling nutritional supplements.  This past year they got into Hcg drops and are doing great.  I ordered them then end of February and in about six weeks I've lost almost 30 pounds.  I'm on my three week maintenance right now, but will do a second round in a couple weeks.  I have to still lose the last ten.  But I've gone from a size ten to a six, but want to get down to a four.  My original goal was to lose 22, to get down to 135.  Once I got there I decided my goal was 125.  I'm at 131 now, but 121 would be nice!  So the goal just keeps changing.

My friend Tracy first told me about it.  She's lost almost 100 pounds.  We are on a Facebook page called Omni Rocks where people list testimonials and questions about their adventures, and a ton of before and after photos.  Many people have lost 100 pounds and many more have lot 50, and I just highly recommend it.  If you're at ALL interested in Omnidrops for weightloss,  go to Tracy's website and order!

There a couple negative things about losing weight:  One is you have to get all new clothes.  I've taken in (altered) the ones I could, have bought a few things at Goodwill, and bought one or two new things.  I don't want to get too many since I'm still shrinking and will have to do it all over again.  The other negative is that when you lose the fat in your face, the wrinkles become much more pronounced, making you look older.  I hate that part.  But I'm really liking my new body.

Hi my name is Carolyn and I'm addicted to Pinterest

A week ago I had no idea what Pinterest was.  One of my friends mentioned in on Facebook and I asked what it was and she sent me and invitation.  Why you have to be invited I have no idea.  Well, it's been a week now and I now have a week's worth of recorded shows in Tivo that I need to watch.  I sit with my laptop 16 hours a day.  I have stopped occasionally to "refashion" clothes which I've learned on Pinterest.  THAT is fun!  I will have to start taking pictures of my "stuff" so I can add them to this here blog.

Blogging is not something I ever thought about doing but I have so much fun reading other people's that I thought why not.  I'm not very literate and don't have a creative bone in my body, but I'll read it, even if no one else does.  One of dear friends started journaling when she was about eight years old and eventually transcribed her whole entire life into an online blog.  She still journals but not longer blogs.

I'm hoping to make more entries that are just a LITTLE more interesting but I can't promise anything.
